Lee Chong Wei retained hope of winning his third Commonwealth Games gold medal in the men's singles event after beating Indian shuttler H.S. Prannoy in the semi-finals on Saturday.
The Malaysian badminton star, who won gold in 2006 and 2010, emerged victorious 21-16, 9-21, 21-14 after a hard fought 58 minutes against Prannoy, who beat him twice last year.
In the final on Sunday, he will take on Kidambi Srikanth, who overtook Viktor Axelsen as no.1 singles player in the world on Friday, in a rematch of an earlier encounter in the badminton mixed team event, which Lee lost 17-21, 14-21.
If Lee wins, it will also be his fifth overall Commonwealth Games gold medal, equalling Koo Kien Keat's record haul at the Games.
Malaysia will also have a shot at the women's doubles gold after Vivian Hoo, who won with Woon Khe Wei in 2014, overcame India's N. Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa with Chow Mei Kuan.
The Malaysian pair bounced back from losing the first set 17-21 to win the remaining sets 21-15, 21-4 and secure a Sunday showdown with England's Lauren Smith and Sarah Walker.
Meanwhile, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong were unable to defend their 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal after losing to English pair Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge 21-15, 16-21, 15-21.
They will face Sri Lanka's Sachin Dias and Buwaneka Goonethilleka in a bronze medal match later today.
Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying also suffered a similar fate of losing to English opponents as they were defeated by Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock in the mixed doubles semi-finals.
They will play against either Indian or English opponents for bronze.
