Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the China Open after the national pair stunned Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae to face Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin in the last eight.

Man-Tee needed only 39-minutes to overcome their more fancied South Korean opponents 21-18, 21-19 for the deserved victory at this Super 1000 event.

The win over the world number three pair would surely lift the spirits of the national pair, who were superb throughout the contest against Kang-Seo who won last week’s Hong Kong Open and finished second at the recent Japan and Korea Open.

Not only were they more clinical during the fast and flat exchanges, Man also displayed a high level of sportsmanship during the match.

The umpire awarded the Malaysian pair their 19th point in the first game, but Man informed the official to return the point to their opponents, as the shuttle had brushed his hair.

That honesty has won the world number 13 pair more admirers as they face former national team-mates Goh-Izzuddin, who beat Junaidi Arif-Yap Roy King 21-14, 25-23 in the second round.

Also through to the last eight are national mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, who overcame team-mates Yap-Valeree Siow 21-9, 21-15.

Hoo-Cheng will next face Indonesia’s Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, who beat Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei 21-15, 13-21, 21-9 in the morning session.

Hong Kong champions Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah meanwhile suffered a second round exit after they lost in straight games 16-21, 18-21 against Chinese pair Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min.

Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also lost in straight games to their Danish opponents.
