Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Norza Zakaria has confirmed the termination of the Ice Skating Association of Malaysia's (ISAM) status as an affiliate member with immediate effect.

This came in the wake of the Sports Commissioner’s decision, effective May 18 2018, to cancel the association’s registration after failing to submit annual reports from 2013 to 2018.

"The Malaysian Ice Skating Federation (MISF) today submitted an unofficial application to join OCM as an affiliate and we will look into it soon.

"They have to meet several criteria set by the Sports Commissioner and OCM before they can be confirmed as a new affiliate," Norza told a press conference after chairing the ninth OCM Executive Board meeting for the 2018-2021 term at Wisma OCM on Tuesday.

Norza explained that the OCM would continue to help ISAM athletes despite the latest development, saying: "We will take it case by case and, of course, we will help them if they need our assistance."

The ISAM had earlier appealed against their dissolution, but it was learnt that it was rejected by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman on October 29.
