Penundaan Kejohanan Badminton Terbuka Malaysia, yang sepatutnya berjalan dari 25 hingga 30 Mei ini, memberikan impak besar buat skuad beregu lelaki negara menjelang Sukan Olimpik Tokyo, Julai depan.
Ini kerana, hanya satu wakil negara, iaitu gandingan Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, layak ke temasya terbesar itu.
Di sebalik sudah layak, naib juara Kejohanan Seluruh England 2019 itu kini sudah terkeluar daripada kelompok lapan beregu pilihan di Tokyo.
Bagi memperjelaskan mengenai perkara itu, wartawan Nadi Arena, Shahrazad Sani, mendapatkan ulasan daripada Aaron.
"Jika anda dalam kelompok pemain pilihan, tidak kira dalam Sukan Olimpik atau kejohanan biasa, anda sukar untuk bertemu dengan pemain dalam kelompok lapan atau tujuh terbaik (di peringkat awal) kerana anda juga berada dalam kelompok itu.
"Tetapi apabila anda memulakannya sebagai pemain di ranking kesembilan dan ke bawah, anda mungkin akan berdepan pemain terbaik seawal pusingan pertama.
"Itulah yang menjadi perbezaannya.
"Memang saya berasa sedikit sedih kerana kami berharap akan ada dua wakil negara dalam Sukan Olimpik tetapi dengan situasi sekarang di mana banyak kejohanan sudah ditunda, jadi hanya ada satu kejohanan kelayakan ke temasya itu (Terbuka Switzerland).
"Jadi ia agak tidak adil untuk mereka kerana mereka masih berusaha," katanya.
