The international intrigue surrounding Thunder center Enes Kanter, detained for a time last weekend at a Romanian airport, deepened Friday as Turkey issued a warrant for his arrest, accusing him of being a member of a "terror group," a pro-government newspaper reported (via AFP).
The warrant reportedly was issued after a state prosecutor in Istanbul opened an investigation into Kanter's alleged "membership [in] an armed terrorist organization," the daily Sabah reported.

Kanter, 25, has backed U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Turkey accuses of being behind a failed coup attempt against president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. For his part, Kanter has compared the increasingly autocratic Erdogan to Adolf Hitler.
Friday's development didn't seem to fluster Kanter, who posted to his Twitter feed a screen shot of the Sabah story, adding, roughly translated, "You cannot catch me. Hahaha. Don't waste your energy. I am already going to come to [Turkey] to spit on all of your ugly, hate-filled faces."
Kanter, born in Switzerland to Turkish parents, was detained in Romania after being informed that his Turkish passport had been canceled, a move he claimed was in response to his criticism of Erdogan and support of Gulen.
The NBA worked with the U.S. State Department to get Kanter out of Romania and into London on Saturday, and U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe and James Lankford of Oklahoma made calls on his behalf, according to ESPN.
Kanter told reporters on Monday he would seek American citizenship.
