Lee Zii Jia made his way into the main draw of the Swiss Open, but the professional shuttler faces a tough recovery as he prepares to face an opponent he has never faced before.

Due to his current world ranking of 96, Lee had to play in two rounds of qualifying matches five hours apart.

First, he easily came through after overcoming Japan’s Minoru Koga 21-14, 21-10.

The second qualifying match, however, took a toll on the Malaysian who was made to toil for an hour before squeezing past Denmark’s Ditlev Jaeger Holm 21-17, 19-21, 21-16.

Lee will next go on to face Singapore’s Jason Teh in the first round of this Super 300 event, less than 24 hours after finishing his last match.

A good run in Europe is crucial for the former All-England champion, who has also confirmed his participation in next month’s Thomas Cup.

Lee and Teh have never faced each other before, and so it would make for an interesting match-up.

What is certain is Teh, ranked 33rd, has the quality to give Lee his sternest test yet in this competition.
