JDT make history after reaching AFC Champions League Elite quarter-finals

Malaysian giants, Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have created history after securing a place in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Elite for the first time.

The Southern Tigers booked their spot in the last eight after overcoming Japanese side Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the Round of 16.

Despite losing 0-1 in the second leg, JDT progressed with a 3-2 aggregate victory, thanks to their crucial first-leg advantage.

Hiroshima scored a late penalty through Kosuke Kinoshita in the 90th minute, but it was not enough to overturn JDT’s aggregate lead as the Malaysian champions held on to secure a historic qualification.

The achievement marks a major milestone not only for JDT but also for Malaysian football, as the club continues to raise the country’s profile on the Asian stage.

Since making their continental debut several years ago, JDT have steadily improved their performances in Asia, consistently aiming to challenge the continent’s elite clubs.

Reaching the quarter-finals of the competition represents the club’s best ever run in Asia’s premier club tournament, highlighting the rapid progress made by the Johor-based side.

With a place among Asia’s top eight teams secured, JDT will now turn their attention to the next stage of the competition, where stronger opponents await in the battle for continental glory.

The historic run also strengthens JDT’s reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s most ambitious football clubs, as they continue their quest to make an even deeper impact in the AFC Champions League Elite.
