Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff paid tribute to another "tremendous" display from Cade Cunningham after he produced his seventh triple-double of the season on Saturday.

Cunningham had 22 points, 17 assists and 10 rebounds as the Pistons recorded their ninth win in their last 11 games, beating the Toronto Raptors 123-114.

Only the Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic (15) and the Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James (eight) have more triple-doubles than Cunningham in the NBA this season.

Cunningham also has the second-most triple-doubles in franchise history, though his nine put him 20 adrift of all-time leader Grant Hill.

The victory saw the Pistons improve to 20-19 for the season, having only won more than 20 games in one of their previous five seasons (23 wins in 2021-22).

Speaking afterwards, Bickerstaff said of Cunningham: "You need a player like him who can exploit their defensive tactics.

"He's a perfect fit against such a defense that looks to collapse, leaving shooters open. Having players with the confidence to catch and shoot is vital, and he delivered exactly that.

"It was a tremendous game for him and a match-up that favoured him well. Things weren’t easy, but he played a crucial role in our success tonight.

"Toronto plays heavily within certain spots, relying on defensive help from various angles, but instead of forcing plays, he consistently made the smart decision and trusted his team-mates to finish."

Now eighth in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons are back on the road against the New York Knicks on Monday, before returning home to face the Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns later in the week.
