The Malaysian para-cycling team were injured in a hit-and-run accident during their morning training session on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR Expressway) on Thurday.
The victims were para-cyclists Khairul Hazwan Wahab and Khairulnizam Ali, tandem pilots Nor Rizuan Zainal and Nur Syafiq Suhaimy, and coach Johari Nayan and taken immediately to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
When contacted by Astro Arena, Ahmad Shapawai Ismail, director-general of the National Sports Council (NSC), assured that the victims are in a stable condition.
"They are currently undergoing emergency treatment and will take X-ray scans later to scan for potential internal injuries," he said.
"Johari suffered injuries on his arms, legs and stomach, while our pilot riders [Syafiq and Nizam] might have broken bones, but it still unclear and needs further examination."
The cyclists are scheduled to compete at the upcoming 2017 ASEAN Para Games from September 17 to 23.
