S. Kisona and Cheam June Wei's straight-game defeats summed up the national contingent’s first day at the World Championships in Huelva, Spain.

S.Kisona would have to take a long, hard look at her performance and go back to the basics after she was beaten 14-21, 15-21 to Turkey’s rising women’s singles shuttler Neslihan Yigit.

It was an insipid performance from Kisona, who was completely outclassed by Yigit who only took 37 minutes to rack up the win.

Cheam was no better in his 17-21, 8-21 defeat to Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.

They were the only Malaysians in action on Sunday as others would begin their campaign the following day.

In the women’s doubles, Teoh Mei Xing-Yap Ling take on Denmark’s Alexandra Boje-Mette Poulsen, Liew Daren faces Misha Zilberman while Lee Zii Jia is up against Canada’s Jason Anthony Ho-Shue in the men’s singles.

In the mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See play Dutch pair Ties Van Der Lecq-Debora Jille.
