Tiga wakil negara menepati ramalan apabila meneruskan kemaraan ke suku akhir Kejohanan Terbuka Malaysia dalam aksi yang berlangsung di Arena Axiata Bukit Jalil, sebentar tadi.
Bintang nombor satu negara, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, tidak berdepan masalah untuk menewaskan pemain veteran Korea Selatan, Lee Hyun Il, 21-7, 21-7 dalam aksi selama 29 minit bagi meneruskan kemaraan dalam acara perseorangan lelaki tatkala juara bertahan, Lin Dan dari China, tersingkir susulan kekalahan 19-21, 12-21 di tangan rakan senegara, Shi Yuqi.
Sebelum itu, pemain berusia 18 tahun, Goh Jin Wei, melakar kejutan tersendiri dalam acara perseorangan wanita setelah bangkit daripada ketinggalan untuk menundukkan cabaran seorang lagi wakil Korea Selatan yang merupakan pilihan ketujuh kejohanan, Sung Ji Hyun, 15-21, 21-18, 23-21.
"Lawan ternyata lebih senior di dalam gelanggang dan dia mempamerkan aksi bertenaga. Sebelum ini, pertemuan dengannya memang sukar dan saya telah mempersiapkan diri," ujar Chong Wei.
"Saya mengubah corak permainan dalam set kedua dan bernasib baik dapat mencuri mata ketika memiliki 14 mata. Ia membantu dalam set ketiga dan ketika ini, saya berasa sangat sakit," tambah Ji Wei.
Kecemerlangan wakil Malaysia diteruskan dalam acara beregu lelaki apabila gandingan Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem memerlukan tempoh 59 minit untuk mengatasi pasangan nombor dua dunia, Liu Cheng-Zhang Nan 21-14, 21-23, 21-17, sekali gus mengesahkan tempat dalam kelompok lapan terakhir.
"Saya rasa sepatutnya aksi hari ini kami mampu memenangi perlawanan dalam dua set pertama tetapi set kedua saya melakukan kesilapan kerana terlalu berhati-hati.
"Untuk aksi suku akhir berdepan Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda dari Jepun, kami pernah bertemu sebelum ini. Diharapkan kali ini kami dapat menampilkan aksi terbaik dan menewaskan mereka," ujar Wee Kiong.
