The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) jointly agreed to cancel the 2021 Singapore Open.

Originally scheduled to take place from June 1 to 6, the Super 500 event would not be rescheduled to take place later this year, unlike the Malaysia Open.

"All attempts were made by the organisers and BWF to provide a safe tournament environment for all participants.

"However, rising COVID-19 cases globally led to complex challenges in managing inbound travel.

Thus, in the interests of all players, tournament personnel and the local community’s health and safety, the event has been cancelled," read an official statement.

The cancellation, which came shortly after the draw was made, means that there would not be any BWF tournament taking place before the Tokyo Olympics in July.
