Four Malaysian pairs have made it to the French Open semi-finals, but Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin take the headlines after they eliminated world number one Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae early Saturday morning.
The Malaysians served up a stunning 21-15, 21-18 victory over the South Koreans to end a two-match losing streak against their opponents at the Japan Open and World Championships this year.
"We stuck to our gameplan. Physically I don't think we are at our best, but we tried to ensure our shot quality was there. It wasn't a comfortable victory despite what the scoreline suggest," they said.
Goh-Izzuddin will now march into the semis to face Indonesian pair Leo Carnando-Daniel Marthin, whom they have a good record against.
Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun are the other Malaysian pair in the last four, as they came through at the expense of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik who retired after five points.
Soh is understood to have suffered a foot injury.
Man-Tee will also face an Indonesian pair in Raymond Indra-Nicklaus Joaquin.
The Malaysian contingent will also have a representative in the mixed doubles.
