Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei gave fans something to smile about at the Malaysia Open after notching the first Malaysian victory in the opening round on Tuesday.

The national mixed doubles pair needed only 27-minutes to thrash Chinese Taipei’s Wu Hsuan-yi-Yang Chu-yun 21-8, 21-9 to move into the second round.

“We are really pleased to give this victory to every fan who came and supported us tonight and also those watching back home,” they said.

The world number five pair will face another Chinese Taipei pair in the second round.
Apart from Chen-Toh, the rest of the Malaysians who played earlier all lost.

They included Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah, Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing.

To add to that misery, action in Court 2 & 3 was delayed for more than three hours at the Axiata Arena after heavy downpour resulted in rain leaking onto the courts.

The rest of the Malaysian contingent including Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi will see action on Wednesday.
