Goh Jin Wei recorded a second consecutive three-game win to check into the Korea Open quarter-finals, an astonishing feat given her 10-month layoff from the sport professionally.
Goh needed close to an hour to overcome Lee Se-yeon 21-17, 17-21, 21-12 and set up a last eight clash with another South Korean in Kim Ga-eun.

Friday’s result would be fairly academic, especially given how this Super 500 event was meant to ease Goh back into high level badminton since June last year, where she last played on the BWF World Tour stage.
Against Lee, Goh won with a combination of brilliant shot placements and a workhorse-like performance, which saw her sometimes foray to all angles of the court in an attempt to keep the shuttle alive.
When she was not forced into some desperate defending, the 2017 SEA Games gold medalist was dictating play from the back court with her cross-court drop shots, which she combined so effectively with precise forehand kills.
In the men’s singles, Ng Tze Yong also booked a last eight berth after a 21-14, 21-19 triumph over Kim Dong-hun, and will next play China’s Weng Hong Yang for a place in the semi-finals.
Sixth seeds Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi are the sole representatives in the men’s doubles after they beat Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin 22-20, 21-11 to face fourth seeds Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto next.
Malaysia have two representatives in the mixed doubles through Ong-Goh Liu Ying and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.
Tan-Lai easily won against Na Sung-seung-Kim Min-ji 21-11, 21-9 and next take on fifth seeds Ou Xuan Yi-Huang Ya Qiong.
Ong-Goh, meanwhile, received a walkover over top seeds Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yu-jung who withdrew.
The new pairing have to contend another local pair in Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun to book a spot in the last four.
The rest of the national participation ended following defeats to Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai, Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien, Cheam June Wei and Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae.
