National doubles pairs Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah and Hoo Pang Ron-Chen Su Yin both checked into the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals after posting comfortable victories in the second round on Thursday.

First to go through were women's doubles Tan-Thinaah, who are looking to build on their fantastic run at the Korea Open two weeks ago which saw them finish as runners-up.

Having also reached the Paris Olympics semi-finals, the world number eight pair are currently in their best form this year and are aiming to continue in the same high level in Hong Kong.

The third seeds were not troubled much by their Hong Kong opponents, beating Lui Lok Lok-Tsang Hiu Yan 21-16, 21-14.

Tan-Thinaah will next face Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi in the quarter-finals on Friday.




Hoo-Cheng were also dominant in their 21-14, 21-15 victory against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Bing-wei-Lin Chih-chun.

The Malaysians could go on to face top seeds Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Other results saw men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin lose 21-16, 19-21, 13-21 against Indonesia’s Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin in their first tournament as a professional pair.

Two other men’s doubles pairs – Lim Tze Jian-Wong Tien Ci and Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong also crashed out of this Super 500 event.
