Liew Daren continued his impressive run at the 2018 Perodua Malaysia Masters, booking a semi-final encounter with current world no. 1 Viktor Axelsen.

After getting past Son Wan Ho and Jeon Yeok Jin in the first two rounds, the Malaysian shuttler defeated Thailand's Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-18, 21-17 in the quarter-finals on Friday.

His Saturday opponent, meanwhile, beat Jonatan Christie 21-15, 19-21, 21-12.

In the other men's singles block, Kenta Nishimoto, who beat Lee Chong Wei in the first round, added last year's winner Angus Ng Ka Long to his list of vanquished opponents as he won 18-21, 21-19, 21-16.

The Japanese will face either Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus or Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

Depending on the results later, Liew could be joined in the semi-finals by compatriots Goh Jin Wei (women's singles), Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong (men's doubles), Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles), and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie or Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (mixed doubles),.

Lee Ying Ying missed out after losing to Spanish star Carolina Marin 17-21, 16-21.
