Amidst Lee Chong Wei's BWF Hall of Fame fiasco, a heartwarming video of the Malaysian legend teaching Lin Dan how to speak Bahasa Melayu emerged.

Lee got his former on-court rival to say “Apa khabar”, “Terima kasih” and “Aku cinta kamu”, which Lin Dan responded by looking at him and delivering those words with perfection, drawing a hearty laughter from both.

The footage was believed to be taken when Lin Dan was in the country two weeks ago to be inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame alongside Lee in a glitzy ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

Lee’s recognition was later ridiculed by Indonesian former shuttler Taufik Hidayat, who said the only reason why the shuttler was inducted was due to the BWF headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

His criticism drew heavy backlash from Malaysians, and the BWF also responded with their own statement of awarding Lee with the illustrious recognition.

“The BWF council endorsed the nominations of Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei for the BWF Hall of Fame as per the selection criteria outlined in the BWF Awards Regulations.

“Both are worthy recipients of the accolade for their outstanding contributions to badminton beyond the confines of the court over a significant period of time,” read the statement.

Lee won three Olympic silver medals and World Championships medals, and held the world number one rank for a record 349 weeks, while Lin Dan won two Olympic gold medals and five world titles.

Both men had a 83% win percentage throughout their career that spanned over two decades.
