Syakilla Salni Jefry Krishnan remains as Malaysia's 2018 Asian Games flag bearer after an emergency meeting with the Malaysian Karate Federation (MAKAF) on Thursday.

The 26-year-old, who won gold medals at the 2014 Asian Games and 2017 SEA Games, was in danger of being axed from the national contingent for failing to maintain her body weight.

Weighing over the maximum limit of the 55kg category, she was disqualified from competing at the 15th AKF Senior Karate Championships in Jordan last week.

The meeting was held to discuss disciplinary action against her, which saw her retain her place in the national contingent albeit with conditions.

"Firstly, she will be going under maximum supervision on her weight control," said MAKAF secretary-general Vincent Chen after the meeting.

"Secondly, 50 percent of her salary will be withheld until the Asian Games is over.

"She understands the consequences and that we are not taking the money, which will be returned to her after the Asian Games and will even be doubled up by the MAKAF if she achieves a gold medal.

"Number three, no more social media."

With less than a month to go, Syakilla would need to work hard to lose weight and ensure her participation in the women's kumite 55kg event.

"She has had some setbacks [but] probably she can recover well from it and move forward," added national karate coach Andris Vasiljevs.

"She has to work on it and complete whatever needed and demanded."
