Castleford Tigers began the new Super League campaign with back-to-back wins as Michael Shenton scored twice in a 26-18 victory at Hull FC, extending the hosts' losing run.

The Tigers eased past Catalans Dragons in their season opener and an entertaining affair on Thursday saw a second consecutive victory assured.

Hull failed to bounce back from a derby defeat to Hull KR and have now lost 13 consecutive matches going back to last season, a run that always looked like being extended as they twice let Cas out of their sight.

Shenton and Jesse Sene-Lefao both lunged over the line down the left early on, before Mark Minichiello was denied a response due to the Tigers taking the ball out of play earlier in the move.

Joe Westerman swiftly powered through to bring Hull back into the contest, though, and the hosts were in front when Jake Connor rose to meet a kick from Marc Sneyd, who then delivered the extras.

But a frantic first half concluded with Shenton crossing for the Tigers and the scoring continued after the restart as James Clare dived over.

Connor was denied his second for obstruction and then Junior Moors reached a grubber kick to score. Hull would not give up the chase and Jordan Lane crossed, but a stern Cas defensive showing protected an eight-point advantage.
