Notorious NBA Draft bust Kwame Brown arrested on felony edible marijuana charge

Former No. 1 pick Kwame Brown was arrested in Georgia early Sunday morning when police found marijuana and a host of marijuana edibles in his vehicle, The Brunswick News reported.

According to police, an officer “smelled the odor of burning marijuana coming from” what turned out to be Brown’s Mercedes-Benz although he was a passenger at the time.

After the vehicle was pulled over, the officer found a small amount of marijuana between the driver and passenger seat before Brown admitted to having more in the trunk.

According to the report, police found three bags of cannabis cookies, a bag of cannabis-infused tea and two cans of cannabis-infused mints in a backpack. Those items are legal where produced and advertised online but illegal in Georgia.

Though the both Brown and the driver of the vehicle, Ivy Cash, claimed the items belonged to Cash, Brown was arrested and charged with felony possession of edible marijuana products and misdemeanor possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, while Cash was arrested for driving without a license.

Police had to send a larger vehicle to the site to transport the 7-foot Brown to county jail.

Brown, 37, spent 12 seasons in the NBA with seven teams. Despite his lofty expectations after being selected by the Wizards at the top of the 2001 draft straight out of high school, Brown averaged more than 10 points in only one season (2003-04). He most recently played for the 3 Headed Monsters in the BIG3 basketball league in 2017.
