Selangor fans' hope to see the Red Giants back at the Shah Alam Stadium finally became a reality after the Selangor state government decided to allow the team to use the stadium as their home ground.

Amirudin Shari, new Menteri Besar of Selangor, said the decision was a sign of strong support from the state government on the appointment of Tengku Amir Shah as the new president of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) on Tuesday.

The Raja Muda of Selangor replaced Subahan Kamal, who resigned to focus on the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) as president and also the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as deputy president.

Amirudin said the appointment of Tengku Amir as FAS president was also timely as the association needed a stronger leadership other than capable of bringing back the image of the Red Giants as one of the strongest teams in the region.

"The Selangor state government wants to record its utmost congratulations to Tengku Amir Shahm who has been appointed as the new FAS President.

"The state government will also provide solid support for any matter involving the Selangor team management including allowing the Shah Alam Stadium to host the Selangor team for future matches," he said in a statement.

The 33-time Malaysia Cup champions had previously been forced to play at other stadiums following a fiasco that took place between the FAS and the state government when several FAS leaders were opposed to the changes former Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was trying to bring.

Amirudin said the FAS management could now start discussing with the Malaysian Football League (MFL) and the FAM on match schedule matters.

He added Selangor already started training at the SUK training pitch in preparation for the 2018 FA Cup final and would continue to use the field as a training ground for the team.

"Of course, more support and aid can be discussed. Hence, the state government and all the people of Selangor are praying that Allah will empower the Raja Muda of Selangor to helm FAS to a new direction.

"Let’s unite, give strong support to the Selangor in the 2018 FA Cup Shopee Final against Pahang, maintain the champion mentality and hopefully the FA Cup will be brought back to Selangor," he said.

Selangor would face Pahang in the FA Cup final at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday.
