Johnathan Thurston will play a home game for North Queensland Cowboys for the final time against Parramatta Eels on Friday.

Thurston, seen as possibly the greatest rugby league player of all time, will bring down the curtain on a glittering career in Townsville before heading to Gold Coast Titans next week to finish his NRL stint on the road.

Having collected numerous individual honours and also helped the Cowboys to the 2015 NRL title, there are numerous career highlights to reflect on in his final days with North Queensland.

And so ahead of one final appearance in front of an adoring Townsville crowd, we have picked out six of his most decisive home moment with North Queensland.

Up and running in Townsville (v Knights, 2005)

Having recently signed for the Cowboys, Thurston quickly stamped his mark on the team. In the week four meeting with Newcastle Knights, he was instrumental in a 52-18 home win, scoring his first try for the club.

Just four games into a season that would end with a place in the NRL grand final, Thurston had already shown talent worthy of a State of Origin call-up. "A bloke will be in very good form to keep him out of the number seven spot," said coach Graham Murray.

Centurion JT does the damage (v Sharks, 2009)

Celebrating his 100th Cowboys appearance, Thurston's evening looked set to be ruined as numerous star team-mates were struck down by injury as Cronulla Sharks saw out a scoreless first half.

However, Thurston stepped up a gear and turned the match on its head, creating the first try and running the show. "JT ran the show for 15 minutes and broke us," said Sharks boss Ricky Stuart. "He is a world class player and you throw JT in our side and we win by 40."

Magic on milestone night (v Roosters, 2014)

There have been a number of appearance milestones throughout Thurston's lengthy NRL career and he made sure to enjoy his 200th appearance for the Cowboys in May 2014. Thurston scored one try, assisted three more and kicked seven goals as North Queensland ran roughshod over defending premiers Sydney Roosters, emerging 42-10 winners in Townsville.

"I was pleased with the way we played, really pleased to make it a memorable night for Johno," said coach Paul Green. "He certainly deserves it for what he has done for our club so far."

Starting the streak (v Storm, 2015)

The 2015 season proved to be the Cowboys' best as they finally claimed the NRL title, but their credentials were far from clear early in the season as they headed into a key home clash with Melbourne Storm.

The two sides could not be separated in normal time but, predictably, Thurston kicked the winning points in the 85th minute. That triumph set in motion a club-record run of 11 victories in which North Queensland's star man repeatedly delivered the goods.

Derby day delight (v Broncos, 2016)

Thurston is renowned for his decisive field goals, having settled the NRL grand final in 2015, and he came up with another in May 2016 that was almost as special against the same opponents: the Cowboys' rivals Brisbane Broncos.

The North Queensland star had taken a knock moments earlier, but he picked himself up with five minutes remaining and the scores locked at 18-18 to kick true and earn the bragging rights in his 250th match for the side.

Bizarre crossbar assist (v Raiders, 2017)

This incredible golden point win over Canberra Raiders last March actually saw Thurston uncharacteristically come up short, but he still managed to influence victory.

With the game tied at 16-16, Thurston went for a field goal that failed to gather height and arrowed towards the crossbar, bouncing down and seemingly out of bounds. But the ball stayed in play and both Thurston and Gavin Cooper hared into the in-goal area, with the latter touching down for a remarkable triumph.
