World number one Scottie Scheffler will miss the start of the 2025 PGA Tour after sustaining a hand injury while cooking Christmas dinner.
Scheffler will be out of action for around three to four weeks after undergoing surgery to remove glass fragments from his hand, his manager Blake Smith confirmed on Friday.
The two-time Masters champion has withdrawn from the PGA's first event of the year, The Sentry, but he hopes to return for The American Express in La Quinta, California, which starts on January 16.
Addressing the incident in a statement, Smith said: "Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.
"He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry."
Scheffler was named PGA Tour Player of the Year for 2024, having recorded seven victories – the most by any player in a calendar year since Tiger Woods in 2007.
The 28-year-old also won gold at the Paris Olympics and captured the FedEx Cup title after winning his second major title at Augusta National in April.
Scottie Scheffler plans to make a 100% recovery and return @TheAmExGolf.
