Jose Pedraza defeated Raymundo Beltran in a unanimous decision on Saturday to win the WBO lightweight title.
Scores of 117-110, 117-110 and 115-112 in favour of Pedraza saw the Puerto Rican improve to a 25-1 record, with 12 knockouts, and set up a unification bout against WBA champion Vasyl Lomachenko (11-1).
Pedraza, who previously held the IBF's super featherweight belt, initially controlled the early rounds with his jab, keeping Beltran at a distance in Glendale.
The Mexican enjoyed a better spell when he started walking through the jab and briefly made it an inside fight in the seventh and eighth rounds, before Pedraza regained his composure to smartly navigate the closing exchanges.
And while Beltran beat the count to continue when Pedraza dropped him with a left uppercut in the 11th round, the incident served only to confirm the younger man's superiority on the night.
"We followed the game plan and we didn't deviate from that tonight," Pedraza was quoted as saying by The Ring.
"We knew Beltran was tough. This fight was all about the focus, and that was a key tonight. It's no secret now, and now it's all about unifying this belt. I want all of the big names. I want Lomachenko; I want Mikey [Garcia]."
