Anrich Nortje will miss South Africa's ICC Champions Trophy campaign after sustaining a back injury.
The fast bowler had initially been named in the Proteas' 15-man squad for the tournament, which takes place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates next month.
However, following a scan on Monday, Cricket South Africa confirmed he will not feature in the eight-team competition.
Nortje has not played for South Africa since last year's T20 World Cup final, in which they were beaten by India in Bridgetown.
Indeed, the 31-year-old missed the entire home international season with a broken tie, including the series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Nortje will also be absent for the remainder of the SA20 franchise tournament, where he was due to play for the Pretoria Capitals.
South Africa will call up a replacement for the seamer, who has taken 159 wickets for his country across three formats.
The Proteas will launch their ICC Champions Trophy campaign against Afghanistan in Karachi on February 21.
Anrich Nortje, who has not played any international cricket since the T20 World Cup, was initially named for the Champions Trophy but has been ruled out and will also miss the remainder of the SA20 season
