Eliud Kipchoge set a new marathon world record after he crossed the line in Berlin on Sunday with a blistering time of 2:01.09.
The new record shaved half a minute of the 37-year-old’s previous world best, also set in the German capital four years ago.
Kipchoge’s latest triumph in Berlin marked his 15th career marathon victory, including two Olympics gold medals.
His Kenyan compatriot, Mark Korir, came in second almost five minutes behind him, and Tadu Abate of Ethiopia took home bronze.
Meanwhile, last year’s winner Guye Adola was given a DNF after failing to record a 40km split time.

Kipchoge memorably became the first runner to run a sub-two-hour marathon when he completed the 2019 Ineos 1:59 Challenge with a time of 1:59:40.
Although it was not considered as an official marathon record, it was recognised by the Guinness World Records.
