Malaysia made it into Asian Games history books after their Arena of Valor team finished runners-up on Tuesday.

The team, comprising of Lai Chia Chien, Nicholas Ng Khai Shuan, Ong Jun Yang, Eng Jun Hao, Yong Zhan Quan and Chong Han Hui, lost to home side China 2-0 at the Hangzhou Esports Centre.

Malaysia, who received a bye to the knockout stage as the Southeast Asian champions of the 2022 AESF Road to Asian Games, had beaten Hong Kong and Vietnam en route to the final.

Thailand took home bronze after beating Vietnam on the same day.

With esports taking place as a medal sport for the first time in Asian Games history, the three countries gained the honour of being the first medallists.

Besides Arena of Valor, Malaysia also have esports representatives in League of Legends, Dota 2 and Street Fighter V.
