Lee Zii Jia could be embroiled in a legal wrangle after his sister and manager confirmed that the shuttler’s team received a legal letter from Indra Wijaya.

“I’m not too sure of the contents of the letter. We will leave this to our legal team as we do not want to prolong or make the issue worse,” she said.

Lee split with Indra last November after the shuttler failed to qualify for the season finale World Tour Finals.

It is understood that Lee and Indra had a contract that runs until 2024.

The shuttler, who reported for first day centralised training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia ahead of the Asia Mixed Team Championships, said the issue affected him.

“I don’t want to comment further on this, because it could create more problems. Of course I am affected, I am human too. I tried to settle it, but it is not over.

“What I can say is that Indra and I parted ways in a peaceful manner. I am disappointed how this situation has turned out, but it is a process I have to go through,” he said.

Lee also highlighted about regaining his confidence on court after suffering three early exits at the Malaysia and India Open, and more recently the Indonesia Masters.

The shuttler’s world ranking also dropped from second to fourth as a result of that sub-par performance.

Under Indra, Lee started well enough last year and won the Asian Championships and the Thailand Open.

He also reached the Denmark Open final in October, but his performance took a big hit afterward and he ultimately missed out of the World Tour Finals.

Despite his off-court troubles, Lee is expected to lead the country’s charge at the Asia team meet in Dubai next week.

Malaysia are in Group B alongside India, Kazakhstan and hosts United Arab Emirates.
