Aaron-Wooi Yik will reflect on 13 top-tier final defeats as they go separate ways

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik may have played their last match as a pair at the World Championships final, ending that partnership with a silver medal on Sunday.

The national pair were no match for China’s world number three Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang, as they lost 17-21, 16-21 in just 35-minutes.

Chia-Soh admitted the Chinese were simply superior in the final.

“Their attacking game was much better than us, and they were also better than us in the front court. They pressured us throughout.

“Despite the result, we are happy to have made the final and with our overall performance,” they said.

If the world meet final was indeed their final act together, Chia-Soh will part ways looking back at their record playing in finals’.

This year alone, the world number four have reached three finals’ at the Malaysia Open, All-England Open and world champs.

They ended up losing all three, twice to South Korean pair Seo Seung-jae-Kim Won-ho and now to Liang-Wang.

Throughout their partnership, Chia-Soh have lost 13 finals’ of top-tier tournaments : 2019 All-England, 2020 Thailand Open, 2022 Asian Championships, 2023 India Open, 2023 Indonesia Open, 2023 China Open, 2024 All-England, 2025 Malaysia Masters, 2025 China Open, 2025 Arctic Open, 2026 Malaysia Open, 2026 All-England and the 2026 World Championships.

While they did well to reach the World Championships final which included a shock win over world number one pair Seo-Kim, this could be a good time to take a break from playing with each other and try their fortunes with different partners.

Chia will team up with Tee Kai Wun at the upcoming Asian Games, while Soh will play with Man Wei Chong on the World Tour.
