Newly crowned World Tour Finals (WTF) champions Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong laid praise on Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, saying the Malaysians have the ability to beat anyone after narrowly edging them on Sunday.

Zheng-Huang had to dig deep into their reserves to secure the hard earned 21-18, 14-21, 21-17 victory over Chen-Toh to claim their fourth WTF silverware in front of their home fans in Hangzhou, China.

It also gave Zheng the perfect farewell gift, with the mixed doubles specialist playing in his final match on Sunday after announcing his retirement prior.

But the Chinese pair, who have achieved everything the sport has to offer including the Paris Olympics gold medal, paid homage to Chen-Toh.

“Toh is actually quite agile at the net, and they are fast too. Chen has a ferocious attack. I feel they have the ability to beat anyone,” said the Chinese pair.

Chen-Toh showed great sportsmanship after the match to heartily congratulate their opponents, and Chen even raised Zheng’s hand to acknowledge the outgoing shuttler with the whole arena celebrating that moment.

The world number eight Malaysians were proud of their efforts the entire week, while also aspiring to emulate Zheng-Huang.

“I think we have to look at them closely in terms of their willpower and performance in the key points. They held up well under pressure, and that is something we need to look at,” said Chen-Toh.

The Malaysians will next see action in front of their home fans when the Malaysia Open kicks-off the 2025 season from January 7-12.
