World Championships silver medalists M.Thinaah is hoping her and Pearly Tan’s success can inspire more female athletes to break barriers and make the country proud.

“Winning this medal is also big, and we hope that it can open the eyes of many women athletes. They need to believe that as long as you work hard and enjoy the process, anything is possible,” said Thinaah upon arriving home from Paris on Tuesday.

Youth & Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also lauded the pair for their impact to the female community.

“Our male badminton athletes get a lot of attention and focus, but both of them have changed the face of women’s badminton. This is a great achievement,” she said.

Tan-Thinaah have indeed become history makers over the last 12-months.

Last year, at the same arena in Paris, they reached the Olympics semi-finals and became the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to do so.

This year, Tan-Thinaah won the Thailand Open and became the first Malaysian women’s pair to win the Super 500 event.

Their latest record-breaking feat came at the Adidas Arena in Paris on Sunday when they clinched the world meet silver medal.

Previously, no Malaysian women’s pair had even made it to the semi-finals of the World Championships.

The world number two pair will head to the Hong Kong Open next week, where they are the defending champions.
