Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik said they had to try a different approach against world top pair Seo Seung-jae-Kim Won-ho, which paid off and sent them to the World Championships men's doubles final.
The reunited national pair were simply too hot for the defending champions, as they clinched a surprise straight game 21-17, 21-18 victory to reach a second world champs final since 2022.
“This time we played differently as the underdogs, coming to this tournament without any pressure of target. We were the better pair on court. We have always played as a top pair, and this time we needed something different to win.
“It’s feels great to reach the final, but we want to just keep going,” they said.
Chia-Soh’s victory means they avenged two defeats against Seo-Kim this year, with both defeats coming at the Malaysia Open and All-England final earlier this year.
While it feels good to eliminate the world’s top pair to reach the final, Chia-Soh know the job is far from done.
They will now go on to face China’s top pair Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in their bid to claim a second world crown.
The Malaysians have only won three times in 14 outings against the world number three, with their last win coming at last year’s Asia Championships.
If Chia-Soh do win their second world title, they will remain a pair after being paired with different partners in these last two months.
