Lee Zii Jia ensured he will contest for a Paris Olympics medal after the Malaysian powered into the men's singles semi-finals courtesy of a 21-17, 21-15 victory over Anders Antonsen early Saturday morning.
After the defeats of national doubles pairs PearlyTan-M. Thinaah in the semi-finals on Saturday, Lee made sure Malaysia still has plenty of interest left in a pursuit of the country's maiden Olympic gold medal.
Lee was dominant throughout this quarter-finals contest against his Danish opponent who struggled to find any sustained momentum.
The seventh seed took the first game courtesy of masterclass net play, which forced Antonsen to lift the shuttle for him to smash home the points.
Lee's defence also stood gamely against the fourth seed, and he soon gained the crucial advantage with the first game win.
Just as he did in the opener, Lee opened up a 11-6 lead in the second game which paved the way for him to claim the outright victory despite Antonsen's valiant attempt to force a comeback.
Lee will go on to face reigning champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn who was equally in commanding form to upset top seed Shi Yu Qi 21-12, 21-10.
Lee will face Kunlavut for a place in the men's singles final on Sunday (2.30pm local time).
