Malaysian shuttler Goh Liu Ying cannot wait to return to the court after watching her compatriots play at the recently concluded 2017 SEA Games.
The 28-year-old, who has been out of action after undergoing a shoulder surgery in May, watched from the sidelines as Malaysia bagged one gold, five silver and two bronze medals — one of the bronze medals was won by her long-time partner, Chang Peng Soon, with Cheah Yee See.
Despite not being part of the tournament, it reminded her of the excitement of competing at the highest level.
"When I watched them play and listened to the roars from the fans at the Axiata Arena, my heart could not take it and I desperately wanted to take part as well," she said.
Although she was eager to recover as soon as possible, she understood she could not rush herself back to fitness.
"Of course I am worried because it is a different injury this time," said Goh, who previously underwent a major operation on both her knees in 2015.
"My recovery is progressing by stages because my movements are still not sharp yet. For instance, I seldom do any training involving the upper part of the body."
Besides that, she also did not rule out the possibility of partnering with another player when she returns to full fitness.
"It depends on what our target is. If we want results, maybe I will be paired with Peng Soon again, but if we want to improve the overall quality of our mixed doubles, maybe I will partner with a younger player," she added.
