National men’s doubles shuttler Tee Kai Wun pushed himself to play through the pain barrier at the recent French and Hylo Open.

Tee has been playing with a 7cm tear in his left calf, admitting any further damage could tear the ligament altogether.

“I suffered the injury at the Arctic Open and had a two-week break after that where I did not train at all. But my condition had not gotten better, and at the French Open my coach noticed I could barely move during the court testing.

“I tried not to think about the injury during matches as I just wanted to enjoy myself on court. My calf is still swollen, I will have another scan to determine the extent of the injury. It’s taken a toll on me mentally, but it’s something I have to deal with,” said Tee, who had a heavy strapping to his calf.

Despite carrying the injury, Tee and his partner Man Wei Chong did well to reach the last eight of the French Open and the semi-finals of the Hylo Open last week.

In fact, the pair were the last Malaysians standing before they lost to Indonesian pair Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza.

The pair, who recently achieved their highest world ranking of third will next see action at the Kumamoto Masters next week.
