But the world number seven pair fell to a 18-21, 21-19, 17-21 loss in a 63-minute affair.
Chia-Soh had lost to the unseeded pair at the Sudirman and Thomas Cup, and were hoping to avenge that losses, but found their opponents more composed especially during the crucial rallies.
Ong-Teo also put up a valiant display against top seeds Indonesians Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo-Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, but lost 21-18, 17-21, 11-21 after 58 minutes.

Yamaguchi beat P. V. Sindhu 21-13, 21-9, while Se-young also had an easy game against Phittayaporn Chaiwan to win 21-16, 21-13 in 38 minutes.
