Indonesia Masters: Aaron-Wooi Yik avenge India Open final loss as Zii Jia exits early again

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik avenged their India Open final defeat against Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang to check into the Indonesia Masters quarter-finals, while Lee Zii Jia suffered a third consecutive early exit this year.

The world champions eliminated last week's men's doubles winners after a 22-20, 21-13 victory on Thursday.

Chia-Soh next take on another Chinese pair in He Ji Ting-Zhou Hao Dong for a place in the semis.

It was a different story for Lee, who started off well enough to win the first game.

The Malaysian looked like he could have sealed it in straight games after clawing back a four point deficit to 20-20 in the second game, but the Hong Kong veteran managed to nick it to level the scores.

Lee looked famished in the deciding game as he rested his hands on his knees to catch a breath several times.

Seeing how his opponent was struggling, Ng continued to apply the pressure which forced the Malaysian into more mistakes and Ng eventually sealed the 16-21, 22-20, 21-13 victory.

This latest setback was Lee's third early exit this season after being knocked out in the first round in Malaysia and the second round in India.

Ng Tze Yong gave a much better account of himself against seventh seed Lakshya Sen, even coming from behind to win the first game.

But Sen showed his class in the next two games to win 19-21, 21-8, 21-17.

It was not all doom and gloom as Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah both made the last eight after straight game victories.

Goh-Lai face third seeds Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue in the last eight, while Tan-Thinaah are up against China’s Li Wen Mei-Liu Xuan Xuan.
