Kempen Sukan Komanwel Gold Coast 2018 menawarkan sesuatu yang unik buat Goh Soon Huat untuk bukan sahaja memburu pingat dalam acara beregu campuran tetapi perlu bersedia memikul peranan dalam acara perseorangan.
Soon Huat tidak asing dalam acara perseorangan memandangkan itu adalah kepakaran asalnya sebelum beralih ke skuad beregu campuran pada Oktober 2016.
Dia perlu bersedia untuk diturunkan dalam saingan berpasukan campuran jika Datuk Lee Chong Wei direhatkan.
Meskipun akur dengan keperluan negara, Soon Huat menyedari dia perlu mengingati kembali beberapa aspek permainan perseorangan.
"Ia merupakan tekanan kepada saya, jurulatih akan memberikan semula saya berlatih untuk kembali membiasakan diri dengan acara perseorangan," kata Soon Huat.
Dalam perancangan awal, Soon Huat sebenarnya tidak terpilih untuk ke Gold Coast bersama gandingannya, Shevon Lai Jemie.
Bagaimanapun, prestasi semasa yang lebih baik berbanding Tan Kian Meng dan Lai Pei Jing serta berada di kedudukan ke-10 dunia untuk menjadi gandingan beregu campuran nombor satu Malaysia menyaksikan mandat memburu emas Sukan Komanwel jatuh ke bahu mereka.
"Senarai pemain yang akan ke Gold Coast adalah berdasarkan prestasi semasa dan kami mahu cuba memberikan yang terbaik untuk Malaysia," katanya.
