After making an amazing recovery to go the distance with partner M. Thinaah at the French Open for their biggest career success to date, Pearly Tan was thankful to those who helped her during the difficult times.
The win in Paris looked impossible after the shuttler left the Maruzen Intec Arena in Osaka in tears and on a wheelchair barely two months ago.
Tan, who was later diagnosed with a hamstring injury instead of the more serious Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) setback, expressed her gratitude on her social media account.
“The feeling where I wanted to stand on court but couldn’t make it made me cherish being able to stand on court and do the things I love again. Now I understand that sometimes after losing something, something more worthwhile awaits you.
“A big thanks to our support staff, coaches, teammates, family members and friends who helped me and supported me through my time,” she said.
Her recovery stemmed from the quick actions from the National Sports Institute (NSI), who ensured she received the most effective treatment.
Among the key NSI personnel in charge of getting her back to full fitness were Jerry Gan (performance analyst officer), Nor Effendi Yassin (sports physiotherapy officer), Sebah Anak Kari (sports masseuse) and Shafiq Amran (physical adaption officer).
“We have planned out her rehabilitation and road to recovery to return to competitive action through a structured plan. This process was done based on evidence and data.
“I have to thank our medical team who worked tirelessly to administer intensive treatment to Pearly to reach her full fitness and ultimately triumph in France,” NSI chief executive officer Ahmad Faedzal Ramli told Berita Harian.
Meanwhile, Tan-Thinaah confirmed their withdrawal from this week's Hylo Open and will next see action at the World Tour Finals in China (December 14-18).
