Indonesia’s decorated men’s doubles shuttler Marcus Gideon Fernaldi has added another recognition to his impressive resume by joining Physical:Asia, alongside Manny Pacquiao.
The now retired shuttler is one of six contestants from the Indonesian team competing in the highly rated South Korean reality show that is currently aired on Netflix.
Gideon’s other team-mates include Glenn Victor Sutanto (Olympic swimmer), Fina Phillipe (Jiu-Jitsu exponent), Jeremiah Lakhwani (extreme sports), Dharma Susila (bodybuilder), Maria Selena (basketball player).
A total of 48 contestants from eight different countries across Asia, including Australia and Turkey are competing in Physical: Asia.
The most high-profile contestant in the show is none other than Pacquiao, Philippines’ eight-division world boxing champion.
The format of the show sees contestants go head-to-head in various individual and team challenges that test their strength, speed, agility and willpower.
The winning country of Physical:Asia will take home a grand prize of US$700,000 (RM2.9 million).
Gideon is the first shuttler to compete in this reality competition.
The rest of the contestants comprise mainly of martial arts exponents such as MMA, jiu-jitsu, karate, judo, wrestling and bodybuilding.
Gideon retired from badminton last year after forming a lethal partnership with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo which saw the pair become world number one in 2017 and win 19 titles on the World Tour circuit.
