Lee Zii Jia checked into the Denmark Open quarter-finals after making light work of Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama, whom he easily dispatched 21-5, 21-19 on Thursday to set up a tasty showdown against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.
Lee absolutely blitzed Tsuneyama in the first game for the 21-5 win, but the second game was a different affair as both shuttlers traded points until the final stretch.

It was Tsuneyama who held a 19-18 lead, but Lee rallied on and scored three consecutive points for the victory.
In the men’s doubles, world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also came through to the last eight after a straightforward 21-13, 21-18 victory over French pair Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar.
The Malaysians next face India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, whom they last beat in the World Championships semi-finals.
Mixed doubles couple Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai also booked their berths after a pulsating 18-21, 24-22, 22-20 victory over fellow Malaysians Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.
Goh-Lai next take on second seeds Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino for a place in the semis.
In the first match of the day, national women’s doubles Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah gave Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan an almighty test, but wilted towards the end as the Chinese top seeds came away with a 21-18, 20-22, 21-17 victory.
