The Malaysian challenge at the 2018 BWF World Championships ended after professional men's singles shuttler Liew Daren was beaten by Japanese star Kento Momota.
Liew was forced to forget his wish to enter the final after Momota showed him the way out in a 37-minute fight in the semi-finals that ended with a 16-21, 5-21 loss at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre, China.
The 31-year-old's performance in today's match was also hampered due to a right ankle injury suffered in the quarter-final win against another Japanese player, Kanta Tsuneyama, yesterday.
His achievement at the World Championship this season was something he had never achieved with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for 12 years before he left the national body early in 2016 due to his deteriorating performances.
His previous best achievement at the World Championships was reaching the third round in 2013.
