The upcoming Malaysia Open 2020, scheduled to take place from March 31 to April 5, has been postponed following the Covid-19 outbreak, which has seen sporting events across the globe put on hold.

The postponement came after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) suspended its World Tour and other BWF sanctioned events from March 16 to April 12.

The Malaysian government had also issued a directive to suspend all sporting activities until further notice to combat the virus, which was recently declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

This included the Swiss Open, India Open, Orleans Masters 2020 and Singapore Open as well as other lower tier tournaments.

The on-going All-England Championships will still go ahead until Sunday under heavy health supervision and directive from the government officials.

Fans who have bought tickets for the Malaysia Open will get their refund within eight working days, according to a statement issued by the Badminton Association of Malaysia.

The postponement of these events will affect qualification to the Tokyo Olympics, and BWF are set to make a further announcement on regulations related to Olympics qualification points at a later date.
