Atlet renang wanita negara, Caroline Chan, berharap saingan Siri Jelajah Mare Nostrum, bulan depan, mampu memberi peluang terbaik untuknya memperbaiki catatan masa berbanding dalam Terbuka Malaysia, awal bulan ini.
Caroline meraih satu pingat perak dan satu gangsa dalam Terbuka Malaysia bagi dua acara kegemarannya, iaitu 50m dan 100m kuak lentang wanita.
Dia, yang masih memegang rekod kebangsaan 50m kuak lentang dengan catatan masa 29.51s, menamatkan saingan dengan 30.42s bagi acara itu dalam aksi di Pusat Akuatik Melaka.
Bagaimanapun, saingan Mare Nostrum yang akan berlangsung di Monaco, Barcelona dan Perancis bakal menjadi medan terbaik bagi mencabar dirinya untuk mencatat masa terpantas.
"Sekarang fokus lebih terarah kepada strategi perlumbaan. Pingat emas memang penting tetapi saya lebih utamakan untuk memperbaiki catatan masa peribadi saya," katanya.
Tidak meraih sebarang pingat dalam Sukan SEA Singapura dua tahun lalu, perenang berusia 22 tahun itu optimis mampu membuktikan sesuatu buat negara selain ingin memperbaharui rekod kebangsaannya.
