The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) apologised after failing to register men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi for the Indonesia Masters next year.
The mistake came to light after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the list of participating players for the event, with Ong being registered with a shuttler called Chee Yik Shen instead of Teo.

“BAM sincerely apologise to both Ee Yi and Yew Sin. The association will look into the current administrative procedure for registration to ensure such errors are to be avoided at all costs in the future.
“Following an international investigation, it has been concluded there was a clerical error regarding Teo-Ong’s respective registration,” said BAM in a statement.
The error was a costly one, as it was understood that the BWF would not be allowing any changes to the players registration despite an appeal submitted by BAM.
Teo was upset when he learnt of the mistake and questioned the national body on his social media, saying “this should not happen”.
The BWF's rules state that every shuttler, both national and professional, must be registered through their respective national associations for World Tour events.
Ong-Teo are one of the most in-form Malaysian men’s pairings at the moment with a good run towards the end of the just concluded season, including a runner-up finish at the Australian Open.
The pair are slated to begin their 2023 season at the Malaysia Open (January 10-15).
