BAC: Sze Fei-Izzuddin overcome Aaron-Wooi Yik in straight games to book final berth
National men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin stormed into the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) final after they defeated national team-mates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik 21-14, 21-18 in a one-sided semi-finals victory on Saturday.
The world number 19 were superior throughout the 40-minute contest against the country's top pair, who were second best in every department.
It would seem as if this Super 1000 level event is there for Goh-Izzuddin's taking, especially having defeated the reigning the world and Olympic champions Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae & Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin to get to the last four.
They did not waste the opportunity against Chia-Soh, maintaining the same attacking tempo with a convincing gameplay to take revenge over their team-mates from the 2022 edition semi-finals, where they lost in straight games.
Goh-Izzuddin's feat also meant that this is the third consecutive year a Malaysian men's doubles pair are in the final of this competition.
Chia-Soh and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi reached the 2022 & 2023 finals, but both pairs were upstaged in the final hurdle.
Now Goh-Izzuddin have that opportunity to end that jinx in this year's final. The Malaysian pair will have to pull out all the stops to beat China's top pair Liang Weng Keng-Wang Chang to break that duck.
Liang-Wang turned out easy winners with a 21-17, 21-17 success over Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan in the other men's doubles semis.
