Viktor Axelsen looks ready to launch an assault on the World Tour beginning with the French Open next week, as the shuttler posted a recent video of himself in great shape engaging in a high-intensity training session.
“I have been doing four minute intervals with different exercises, such as two minutes of deep pressure and two minutes of defence or rallies. It involves all kinds of blocks. It’s tough to go four minutes in a high pace so we will do three,” he said.
In the video, the world number one is seen engaging against two sparring partners in a session that focuses primarily on his defence.
The short clip serves just as a preview to the hard work the lanky Dane has been putting into training since he last competed at the Malaysia Open in January.
He crashed out of that Super 1000 event against Shi Yu Qi in three pulsating games at the semi-finals.
After the loss, Axelsen said he did not have enough rest after winning the World Tour Finals, and was going to take enough time to recuperate and put in the hours in training.
He also issued a warning to the rest of his competitors ahead of the Paris Olympics.
“Give me a few months with proper practice and I will be really scary for the Olympics,” he said after the Malaysia Open loss.
Axelsen is slated to face Priyanshu Rajawat at the French Open first round.
At the All-England, he will also take on another Indian shuttler K.Srikanth.
Despite a considerable time on the sidelines, Axelsen remains a dominant force to beat in the men’s singles after bagging seven titles in 2023.
