Ng Tze Yong and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi kept the national interest alive after turning in dominant performances on Friday to check into the Australian Open semi-finals.

They are the only Malaysian representatives left in the Sydney Super 300 event after Goh Jin Wei’s straight-game defeat to third seeded Pornpawee Chochuwong in the quarter-finals.

Commonwealth Games runner-up Ng reached his second World Tour semis after he easily overcame Australia’s Nathan Tang 21-9, 21-7.

Ng, who was never troubled throughout the 29-minute contest and easily strode to victory, next takes on Lu Guangzu, who had beaten Lee Zii Jia earlier to confirm his World Tour Finals spot in Bangkok next month, for a place in the final.

Ong-Teo already qualified for the season finale, but they continued to build on their recent good form after a 23-21, 21-12 victory over South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae.

The sixth seeds did well to take the first game 23-21 after both pairs were locked in a tense game that went to the wire.

The South Koreans never recovered from that setback, and made many mistakes to concede the second game.

Ong-Teo now go on to play Chinese pair He Ji Ting-Zhou Hao Dong in the last four.

This is the Malaysians’ second semi-finals in three events, having also made it to the penultimate stage of the Denmark Open in October.
