All Malaysian shuttlers successfully navigated past the first round of individual events at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia on Thursday.

Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem's defeat to Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda, which contributed to the men's team first-round exit from the team event on Sunday, did not seemingly affect them as they easily dispatched of Thailand's Dechapal Puavaranukroh and Kittinupong Kedren 21-15, 21-16.

Fellow men's doubles pair Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin followed them through to the second round with a win over Hong Kong's Or Chin Chung-Reginald Lee 21-11, 21-18.

However, a tough test awaits them as their next opponents are Japanese pair of Kamura and Sonoda, who finished as runners-up at the 2018 BWF World Championships.

In the mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying overcame Indian pair P.J. Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy 21-15, 23-21, followed by Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie beating Wang Chilin and Lee Chiahsin of Chinese Taipei 21-12, 21-16.

Another Chinese Taipei duo also fell to Malaysia in the women's doubles, with Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean defeating Chen Hsiaohuan and Hu Lingfang 21-13, 21-14.

Meanwhile, men's singles players Liew Daren and Lee Zii Jia were not in action and will only begin their individual campaign on Friday.
